Welcome to the Reading Doctor Belper and Amber Valley/East Derbyshire

I am a teacher with 24 years’ experience, having worked across Key Stages 1 & 2 in different schools around the East Midlands. Having been ground down by the relentless pressure and impossible expectations of being a classroom teacher, I decided to give it all up to own a café! But I missed the real essence of teaching – the interaction with children, laughing with them, inspiring them, helping them to learn and watching them grow. I dipped my toe back into the world of education by finding a role as an online tutor, but the Company I worked for was generic and soulless, so I started searching for something else: enter The Reading Doctor.

When I first read about the Reading Doctor I knew straightaway it was more than an ordinary tutoring service. The many stories about the impact Reading Doctor sessions have had on children’s confidence and self-esteem and the positive comments from OFSTED about the impact of the Reading Doctor on pupils struggling with reading only made me more certain it was right for me. I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to set up The Reading Doctor Belper where I offer one to one reading lessons to children living here and the surrounding areas.

I have always loved reading and it is this love and passion for reading that I aim to inspire in all the pupils that I teach. As an experienced teacher, I know that children learn in different ways and some don’t always thrive in a school environment. Dedicated tuition allows for individual children to have learning tailored specifically for them, in a way that suits them best. The Reading Doctor bespoke tuition reading package provides strategies to promote learning and literacy skills in a safe and nurturing space.
