Welcome to The Reading Doctor, Faversham 

I am passionate about teaching reading and have always promoted this within my classroom.   Managing this in a class of 30 and the demands of the curriculum have always been a challenge however, it has always remained a priority of mine.

My career in teaching started when I retrained as a primary school teacher after having my children.  I  have worked in primary schools as a teacher for over 13 years now predominately in EYFS and KS1.  More recently in addition to teaching I have worked as a SENDCO and Forest School Leader.  Becoming a Reading Doctor has allowed me to be able to offer bespoke reading tuition to individual children.

Reading is the key to unlocking self-confidence, self-esteem and learning for children. Which is why I was drawn to becoming a Reading Doctor. I had seen firsthand how successful the Reading Doctor program is at my own school hub where I have been lucky enough to work alongside two Reading Doctors.  

We are in the second year of having a Reading Doctor school hub at our primary school.  The children at our school Hub have gained the resilience, skills and confidence to grow. It has been lovely to see how much they have developed from this special 1 to 1 tuition tailored to their individual needs.  Many children and young people just need a little extra 1 to 1 support to gain the skills and confidence to fly.

The Reading Doctor intervention provides an opportunity to really nurture the needs of an individual so they can gain the skills, resilience and confidence to become lifelong readers. Following an initial assessment, lessons are tailored to the individual needs of a child with precise feedback and praise. Nurturing their self confidence and self esteem so they feel better about all of their learning. Willing to take risks to fly higher.
