Kirsty

I am delighted to bring The Reading Doctor to Margate and the surroundings areas, where I offer one to one bespoke lessons.

Having gained a BA honours in education in 2005, I have worked in a variety of infant and primary schools throughout East Kent. I have taken on many different roles throughout my teaching career including leading and developing PE, Modern Foreign Languages, Music and Art, as well as supporting SEN learners within the classroom.  In 2015 I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to train as a Reading Recovery teacher.

Reading Recovery completely transformed my view of reading and how children learn to read. Working on an individual basis and tailoring my teaching to each child’s needs was instrumental in securing reading success. I loved getting to know the children individually, finding out about their interests and using this to inspire them to read. Seeing the huge transformation in each child was extremely rewarding.

Sadly the funding for Reading Recovery was cut and I returned to class teaching as a literacy lead.  As part of my role I continued to support children’s reading throughout the school and have offered support and guidance to colleagues when working with specific children and their reading challenges. I have delivered reading and phonics workshops to other teachers and supported parents when they have been concerned about their child’s progress in reading.

When I stumbled across The Reading Doctor, I was taken back to my reading recovery days. I was inspired by how passionate and dedicated The Reading Doctors were and how everyone of them shared the same ethos to positively support young people to develop their reading potential.

I am excited to be able to offer individual reading sessions that support children’s phonics, reading and literacy learning using The Reading Doctors unique, high quality resources.

After an initial assessment, I will work closely with your child to develop their personal reading pathway. I will take time to get to know every child individually, find out their interests and nurture and develop their ability to read.  We will enjoy books, build their confidence and raise your child’s self-esteem.  By removing the barriers that many children face together we will give your child a lifelong love of reading.
