A very warm welcome to the Reading Doctor, Sutton Coldfield and Tamworth. It is a pleasure and personal delight to bring the Reading Doctor program to this area and to be working with such a progressive team of professionals. I graduated with a degree in law but quickly realised that my love for teaching was what I wanted to pursue. As such, I attained a PGCE before starting my career in 2002 and, twenty years later, I still have a huge passion for teaching. During my career, I have had the pleasure of teaching and leading reading across all year groups in KS1 and KS2 and liaising with English colleagues in KS3. This has given me a wealth of experience in creating sequenced programs of phonics tuition and wider reading skills of fluency and comprehension. Understanding children’s barriers to reading has enabled me to design specific reading curriculums and sequences which promote accelerated reading skills.
I am also experienced in teaching children with specific special educational needs, e.g. dyslexia, and I am able to create a sequence of learning to match their personal learning style.
I am keenly aware that a child’s mental health and wellbeing is critical to the success of their learning journey, and as such, I am trained in children’s mental health development and ensure that any teaching programs I implement are closely aligned with a child’s confidence, anxiety levels and self-esteem.
Reading is the gateway to every other curriculum subject – it is every child’s right to be taught to read with accuracy and fluency. It would be a privilege for me to support your child on this journey.
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s reading development, or would like to discuss how I could support your child to become a confident, fluent reader who enjoys reading, please contact me.
