Welcome to Reading Doctor Hull!

I am so excited to bring this valuable service to the HU post codes. I am passionate about reading and about removing the barriers to reading that so many children encounter. The Reading Doctor’s mission enables developing readers to become skilled readers through a multi-sensory, pupil-centred learning strategy, allowing the children to build on what they know. This develops not only their reading capabilities, but also their wider self-belief and understanding of themselves as a learner.

I have been a secondary English teacher since 2015 and prior to this, I worked as a tutor and teaching assistant in a variety of primary and SEN schools. I hold a CACHE Level 2 in Understanding Dyslexia and Other Specific Learning Difficulties and am an SEN link at my current school, so I have experienced a wide range of the frustrations and challenges that reading can bring. As an English specialist, I know how important a grasp of reading is to lifelong success, but I am also aware that there are many students who struggle in the early stages of phonics and then fall further and further behind their peers which erodes confidence and the pure joy of reading. I also know that children learn in different ways and that a busy classroom environment is not always the right place for them to flourish.  The Reading Doctor method has a proven track record of success through an indivualised learning plan and 1-2-1 time in a safe, nurturing space.
