Debbie
Welcome to the Reading Doctor Loose, near Maidstone in Kent. I am delighted that I can offer 1:1 reading lessons for children who need a personalised approach to learning to read. I have been teaching for 20 years in both Key Stages 1 and 2 and have an absolute passion for reading. I have been a Leading Literacy Teacher for Kent, led literacy across a large primary school, set up school libraries and led interventions to boost reading potential. I have also taught pupils with speech and language difficulties, ASD, and dyslexia, supporting whole school inclusion projects and delivering training.
I currently train newly qualified teachers and teach a Year 2 class. It was while
setting up an intervention based on the principles of reading recovery that I learned about this approach. When I heard about Deborah’s methods, I knew instantly that I wanted to be involved. I am thrilled that I can deliver Reading Doctor lessons to pupils who would benefit from 1:1 tuition from my home, or through a Reading Doctor School Hub. Many children need a different approach with more individualised support than a classroom can offer. I feel privileged that I can provide this, supporting them to develop an essential life-skill. Reading opens doors for young people, and I love finding the key that will unlock the potential in each pupil. After an initial assessment, bespoke 1:1 sessions will lift
barriers to reading and support progress, attainment and self-esteem. I am proud to be part of The Reading Doctor story and look forward to hearing how I can support you and your child.
