Hello, I'm Steph!
I'm proud to lead The Reading Doctor Canterbury, where I support children and young people to become confident, happy readers through bespoke 1:1 intervention.
After graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University Belfast, I spent the next few years gaining broad teaching experience across all age groups, from Early Years to Key Stage 4.
In 2013, I relocated to Kent and spent nearly a decade specialising in Early Years and Key Stage 1. During this time, I developed a passion for nurturing a love of learning, and at the heart of that – a love of reading.

Why I Became a Reading Doctor
As a classroom teacher and later a Senior Leader, I saw first-hand how some children found reading difficult, stressful or even painful. I worked hard to introduce staff training and targeted interventions to make reading more accessible and enjoyable – but I wanted to do more.
When I became a parent in 2021, I started thinking about how I could create a more balanced life while continuing to make a real difference to children’s education. After hearing incredible things about The Reading Doctor from teachers and families, I met with Deborah for a coffee – and within minutes I was completely inspired.
Today, I feel genuinely privileged to work as a Reading Doctor. I help children of all ages overcome barriers to reading, rebuild confidence and develop the skills they need to thrive – not just in school, but in life.
