Hello, I'm Emily
I'm proud to lead The Reading Doctor Dorchester, supporting children across West Dorset to become confident, independent readers through personalised, 1:1 intervention.
I qualified as a primary teacher with a BEd (Hons) 18 years ago and have spent much of my teaching career in First Schools in the Dorchester area. As a former SENCO and Assistant Head for Inclusion, I’ve developed a strong passion for supporting children with additional needs and helping every child reach their potential.

Why I Became a Reading Doctor
As a child, reading didn’t come easily to me – I often felt I had to work harder than my peers just to keep up. Thankfully, I had teachers who saw my potential and gave me the support I needed. That experience inspired me to become a teacher myself.
Over the years, I’ve worked with children with a wide range of needs including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia and social, emotional challenges. I believe every child deserves an approach tailored to how they learn best. At The Reading Doctor, I have the freedom to create bespoke, multi-sensory programmes that help children build skills, self-belief and a genuine love of reading.

How I work

✅ 1:1 reading sessions tailored to your child’s needs and learning style
✅ Based in Dorchester, covering the surrounding areas of West Dorset
✅ Ideal for children with SEND, dyslexia, ADHD or low confidence
✅ Calm, supportive tutoring sessions designed to build independence and joy
If your child is finding reading tricky, I’d love to help them discover their ‘glitter’ – and shine through stories.
