LOOSE
The Reading Doctor

Hello, I'm Debbie!
I'm proud to lead The Reading Doctor Loose, near Maidstone in Kent, offering tailored 1:1 reading lessons that help children grow in confidence, skill and self-belief.
With 20 years’ experience teaching across Key Stage 1 and 2, I’ve always had a deep passion for reading. I’ve worked as a Leading Literacy Teacher for Kent, led literacy across a large primary school, and supported whole-school inclusion projects for pupils with speech and language difficulties, dyslexia and autism. I now teach a Year 2 class and train newly qualified teachers – and I’m thrilled to bring Reading Doctor support to children in my local area.

Why I Became a Reading Doctor
My journey with The Reading Doctor began while setting up an intervention programme based on reading recovery principles. When I discovered Deborah’s approach, I knew straight away it was something I wanted to be part of. Her methods align so closely with everything I believe about personalised, inclusive education.
Many children need more than a classroom can provide – they need individual attention, patience and a different way in. Being able to offer this from my home and through school hubs is a privilege. Helping children overcome barriers and discover the joy of reading is what I love most.
