Hello, I'm Joanne!
I'm proud to lead The Reading Doctor Sheffield, supporting families across Sheffield and the surrounding towns.
I provide personalised one-to-one reading support to help children become confident, independent readers who enjoy reading and believe in their own abilities.
With over 29 years of experience as a qualified primary school teacher, I have taught across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Throughout my career, I have specialised in early reading and phonics, spending the last 15 years as an Early Reading and Phonics Lead.
I have also held leadership roles including Early Years Lead, PSHE Lead and Early Career Teacher (ECT) Lead.
I have extensive experience supporting children with a wide range of additional needs, including dyslexia and autism, using nurturing, multi-sensory approaches tailored to each child's individual learning style.

Why I Became a Reading Doctor
Throughout my teaching career, I have seen first-hand how learning to read can transform a child's confidence, education and future opportunities.
I became a Reading Doctor because I wanted to spend more time working closely with children who need extra support, helping them overcome barriers to reading in a way that is enjoyable, engaging and personalised to them.
As a parent of two grown-up children, I understand how important it is for families to feel supported throughout their child's reading journey.
One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing children develop confidence, discover a love of books and gain the skills they need to thrive both in school and beyond.
