As a child, I found reading difficult. I vividly remember scanning ahead in class, anxious about reading aloud. Everything changed when I was given extra support by a specialist teacher – someone who saw my potential and helped me work at my own pace. It gave me the confidence to succeed, and eventually, a passion for reading that led me to study English Literature at university.

In 2001, I began my teaching career, but it was my training as a Reading Recovery Teacher that gave me the structure, tools and insight I’d long been searching for. Over nearly a decade, I had the honour of working one-to-one with children, training colleagues, leading phonics and developing reading-for-pleasure cultures across schools. In 2015, I was proud to receive a Reading Recovery Teacher of the Year award. Joining The Reading Doctor brings all of my experience together in a way that aligns perfectly with my values – and I’m so excited to offer this support in my local area.
