Hello, I'm Katy!

I’m proud to support children across Whitstable and surrounding villages through one-to-one Reading Doctor lessons designed to build confidence, spark enjoyment and make real progress. Nothing beats seeing a child begin to believe in themselves and feel proud of their reading.

Why I Became a Reading Doctor

After hearing glowing feedback from parents about how The Reading Doctor had transformed their children’s confidence and learning, I knew I had to find out more. What I saw in action – the personalised approach, nurturing environment and incredible outcomes – inspired me to join the team.

My background includes a degree in Music, a Post Graduate Certificate in Music and Movement, and experience as an Education Manager delivering creative learning projects in schools. I’ve taught individual music lessons and, for the last five years, I’ve worked as a class music teacher in two infant schools. I'm also currently studying for a Masters in Early Years Education, which has deepened my understanding of the barriers some children face and the importance of tailoring support to the individual.

The Reading Doctor approach truly resonates with me — it’s about meeting each child where they are, and giving them the tools and encouragement to thrive.
For the last five years, I’ve worked as the class music teacher in two local infant schools. It’s a role I feel privileged to hold, as it gives me the chance to be continually inspired by the children I work with every day.

Currently, I am also studying for a Masters in Early Years Education, which has deepened my understanding of how easily children can feel overwhelmed when trying to grasp difficult concepts — especially when taught in ways that might work for many, but not for all.
